What is the Wall?

In June 2002, Israel began implementing the next stage of its expansionist and repressive program by building a Wall inside the West Bank that would run at least the West Bank’s entire length. Not surprisingly, the path of the ever-winding Wall would follow, consistently, the logic of land confiscation and control, including the annexation of settlements and the caging off of built-up, Palestinian areas..[ More...]

Effect of the Wall on Water

The second day after occupying the West Bank in 1967, the Israeli military issued military order No. 92, which would prohibit all water development, drilling, and infrastructure building in the West Bank, unless a permit was obtained from the military “water officer”; to date, not a single permit has been issued, for agriculture or domestic use, in any of the areas which benefit from the Western Aquifer, demonstrating Israel’s iron grip over Palestinian water resources. In reality, the origin of the idea of the Wall did not coincide with these attacks but have been a part of Sharon’s plans for many years. The expression for security reasons instead has been adopted by Israel to justify this and other measures against the Palestinian people, even if contrary to international law. The Wall is clearly illegal according to international human rights law and international humanitarian law (IHL). This article shows the Wall’s illegality through two main dimensions one the Wall itself, and two its consequences and violation to Palestinian rights. [ More...]
